Milford is a partially independent city that is located partially in New Haven County in Connecticut.
By the American Revolution, Milford was a significant enough city and port to warrant the construction of Fort Trumbull for the defense of the city.
Milford was the home and final resting place of Peter Pond, the first explorer of the Athabasca region of North America in the 1780s.

Milford was settled in 1639 as part of New Haven Colony, and was a popular summer resort until the 1920s; it was incorporated as a city in 1959.
Milford has a fine natural harbour on Long Island Sound and was a major oystering centre from the mid 19th century until pollution ruined the business late in the 20th century.
Previous to this, the earliest-known use of the phrase occurred in the pamphlet, "Ye Slaves," written by George Milford and published in December, 1912.

New Milford has their entire, complete collection of vital records from the time the town was officially chartered in 1707.
As an interesting factoid of information, New Milford was the first colony in CT to have it's own charter.

Another fabulous Lobster Bake was held on July 23, 2005 at the Milford Boat Works.  As usual, it was great weather, great fellowship and a sold out bake with 1900 twin lobster tickets and 600 steak tickets.

Milford's Beaches are the nicest in Connecticut and the Sandbar to Charles Island is the best for fishing for Bluefish.
I recommend the Holiday inn just North on US-1 where the food is nice and there are several fast food places nearby or if you plan to stay a while and visit the Howard johnsons Motor lodge right at the exit.
Milford has many such greens where the locals love to enjoy the open spaces for winter Ice skating and spring picnics.
