Milford Lake Fishing Techniques by Rick Franklin and Ned Kehde
Milford is nestled in the picturesque Flint Hills and fed by the Republican River and seven feeder creeks.
Since Milford is a flatland reservoir, lying in the middle of one of the world's greatest grasslands, anglers are frequently tormented by ranks of heavy white caps that course the length of the lake, running from Curtis Creek to Madison Creek.
Even though the Milford's walleye will be feeding primarily of invertebrates or aquatic insect in their larval and pupal stages in early June, there are times when anglers can entice impressive array of fish by casting and slowly retrieving crankbaits on rocky points, shallow humps, and shallow foundations.

The Republican River is the main source of inflow to Milford Lake; water released from Milford Lake may be used for industrial, municipal, and agricultural purposes and for maintenance of instream uses.
Streamflow gains between the gaging stations near Hardy, Nebraska, and at Concordia, Kansas, during the 1988-92 drought were almost double the gains during the 1952-57 drought (table 1).
Therefore, canal return flows and surface-water diversions are each considered important components of the flow in the Republican River during irrigation seasons, but their combination may change from a net contribution to a net withdrawal of water from the river if water usage by the KBID is restricted.

 History
The boundaries of Kansas were established on the east at the Missouri line, on the north at the 40th Parallel, on the south at the 37th Parallel, and on the west at the "summit" of the Rocky Mountains.
Realizing that justice could not be administered to the far western reaches of the territory in an effective manner, delegates of the Wyandotte Constitutional Convention chose the 25th Meridian west of Washington as the new western line of the proposed state and the boundary was accepted by Congress.
This was finally accomplished in February of 1889 when the Kansas Legislature passed a bill changing the name to Geary after General John White Geary, the 3rd Territorial Governor of Kansas and a Union War hero.
