NORTH CLARENDON — Mill River Union High School will be a different place next year.
John Towne, the school's industrial arts teacher, will be retiring this year after 30 years at Mill River and 36 as a teacher, and many previous graduates have stopped by to wish him well.
Bruce Gee, principal of Mill River, said he counted on Towne as a mentor, even though he's only headed Mill River for the last four years.

 Mill River Mapping Project
A group of students and teachers from Mill River Union High School gathered information from personal accounts, libraries, and historical societies as well as from field trips to various locations to answer the question.

The Bradford school's program will draw some players from neighboring Blue Mountain Union in Wells River, but the team will still be named Oxbow, according to coach Mark Palmieri.
Vermont Interscholastic Football League members voted unanimously at Monday's meeting to admit Oxbow Union High School to the VIFL.
Champions in the regular season were Brattleboro, South Burlington, Mill River and Otter Valley, with the state championship hardware going to Mount St. Joseph Academy, South Burlington, Woodstock and Otter Valley.

 Nehalem Area History
The Nehalem Union High school was built on the hillside overlooking the town, and is still standing and used as a Grammar School today.
Wheeler was originally founded as a mill town, in 1880 by C.H. Wheeler and C.A. Himple, and was first known as Vosburg, The town was situated on the Nehalem River, about three miles above the river mouth.
Nehalem was a typical western small town, with false-fronted buildings facing a main street that was partly built on pilings and fill ground right on the river's edge.
