Milledgeville is a city located in Baldwin County, Georgia (of which it is the county seat), northeast of Macon, Georgia between Eatonton, Georgia and Hardwick, Georgia along Highway 441 on the banks of the Oconee River.
Milledgeville was named after Georgia governor John Milledge, and was laid out at the start of the 19th century to be the new centrally located capital of the State of Georgia.
Milledgeville is the location of the Central State Hospital (http://www.centralstatehospital.org), Georgia's first public psychiatric hospital, founded in 1842.

Louisville is the present capital of the state of Georgia, and is situated on the north-east bank of the Ogechee [sic] river, 70 miles from its outlet, and 100 miles from Savannah.
In November 1864, however, the Milledgeville capitol was evacuatedbecause it lay in the path of Sherman's March to the Sea.
The board justified the use of Indiana limestone on the basis of the impracticality and the expense of using Georgia marble or granite and that competitors possessed superior facilities for the quarrying and dressing of the stone.

The conference was held in Milledgeville, Georgia (April 29 through May 5, 1998), which is east of Macon, and at one time was the capital of Georgia in the 19th century.
The conference was an academic one focusing on Margaret Mitchell mostly and the contribution to social and popular culture she made by authoring GWTW.  Herb Bridges, whom I consider the "Dean" of GWTW collectors, was the first speaker of the program and he gave a brief history of the filming of the movie.  Mr.
Bob Wilson, was "drafted" into proxy and gave a short speech on the history of Milledgeville, and another lady, whose name I did not get as she was a substitute, gave a talk on the Civil War era in Milledgeville.

Central State Hospital (CSH), Georgia's first public psychiatric hospital, was founded in 1842 to provide a safe and humane environment for Georgians with mental illness and mental retardation.
Central State Hospital, as a mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse facility, serves 23 counties in central Georgia (with a census in 2000 of 608,744) and has speciality programs serving citizens from the entire state of Georgia.
