BBC News | ENTERTAINMENT | Beatles anthem is millennium song
The song was picked after weeks of deliberation and speculation over which song would scoop the honour of being played at the Millennium Dome opening celebrations on New Year's Eve.
More recent songs by Oasis, Pulp and Robbie Williams all fell by the wayside as the shortlist of eight was whittled down, as did John Lennon's Imagine which was re-released last weekend.
Judges on the four-man panel choosing the song included musician and TV presenter Jools Holland, who will be performing on the night with a new version of the National Anthem.

MILLENNIUM does not attempt one inclusive sweep of linear history.
Each episode of MILLENNIUM deals with the events of one century in five separate vignettes; it is a magazine, rather than a conventional documentary, that tells five short stories linked together, at times, only by the planet on which we live.
Thus, MILLENNIUM's themes emerged: the changing balance of power over the centuries; the rise of science and technology; and the shrinking of the world it once took years to circumnavigate.

Morph The Cat - Donald Fagen, Music Downloads - Online
Sonically, at least superficially, it is very much a continuation of the two Steely Dan records of the new millennium -- not only does it share Fagen's aesthetic, but it was recorded with many of the same musicians who have shown up on the Dan projects.
There are slight differences -- without Becker around, there's a greater emphasis on keyboards and the songs stretch on a bit longer than anything on Everything Must Go -- but this, at least on pure sonics, could have functioned as a sequel to Two Against Nature.
In large part this is due to Fagen's viewpoint -- he never succumbs to mawkishness, always preferring to keep things witty and sardonic, which helps keep things from getting too heavy -- but it's also due to his smooth jazz-rock, which always sounds nimble and light.

Thirty-odd years after the release of Begin, British label Poptones was given unlimited access to that treasure trove of recordings, and Again is the first album culled from the vaults.
Again collects pre-production demos for Begin as well as other material that has never been released previously; in fact, some of the songs were intended for the band's never-recorded second album and are thankfully issued for the first time here.

Some songs that had not previously seen the light of day in any form are the uptempo, slightly loungy "If You Only Knew," the slow, Indian tinged "Believe You", which could have easily fit on the Monkees' Head soundtrack, and the pretty, early Monkees-ish "Sunshine Today".
The packaging of Preparing For The Millennium is stellar as well, with cool photos, vintage press clippings, and the usual excellent liner notes and song annotations by the venerable Dawn Eden, which include insights from various members of The Ballroom and The Millennium.
Songs like "Another Time", "Song To The Magic Frog (Will You Ever Know)", "The Keeper Of The Games, "Musty Dusty", and "Would You Like To Go" are all manifestations of Boettcher's wide eyed wonderment, the harpsichord and string laden arrangments and the elegant melodies offering the perfect complement to Boettcher's soaring vocals.
