	UN Millennium Project \| About Us
		The Millennium Project was commissioned by the United Nations Secretary-General in 2002 to recommend a concrete action plan for the world to reverse the grinding poverty, hunger and disease affecting billions of people.
		The UN Millennium Project's findings demonstrate that through developing countries' pursuit of "MDG-based poverty reduction strategies," matched with fulfillment of the 0.7 pledge made by developed countries, the Millennium Development Goals can still be achieved.
		As of Jan. 1, 2007, the Millennium Project's work was incorporated into the Bureau for Development Policy under the leadership of the United Nations Development Program, forming the MDG Support group, which works at the regional, national and global level to support the preparation and implementation of MDG-based national development strategies.

	MILLENNIUM PROJECT CALLS FOR BALANCING TRADING SYSTEM
		The UN Millennium Project -- an independent advisory project commissioned by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to propose the best strategies for meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) -- in its final report reproached the global trading system for being "unbalanced against the interests of developing countries".

		The 650-foot-high tower is part of a hotel-condominium-office project that is considered critical to the larger redevelopment of the Transbay Terminal area, in part because of financial contributions the project will make to that effort.
		The commission approved the project even though, in theory, Millennium could run into trouble down the road, depending on which of two underground routes are adopted for a planned Caltrain extension from its station at 4th and Townsend streets to the Transbay Terminal, when the terminal is rebuilt.
		Kugler said Millennium is taking some risk by pushing its plans through before plans for the Transbay Terminal are completed, something she hoped would be done by the end of the year.
