Millennium Volunteers (often abbreviated MV) is a national British government initiative, set up with public funding, and aimed at people between aged 16 and 24.
It offers a wide range of volunteering opportunities, with support and accreditation for young people.
The sorts of things that MV's get involved with are many and varied, they could include helping out with scouts, working in a hospital, creating a community garden or classroom helper in a school for disabled children.

Millennium Volunteers (MV) is a national project which aims to engage 16-24 year olds in voluntary activity, based on their existing skills and interests, and to accredit them for their efforts.
They are encouraged to keep volunteering through incentives such as a youth forum, away days and residentials, and they receive Awards of Excellence, signed by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, after committing 200 hours to the scheme.
There are 40 active volunteers involved, with another 60 on the scheme; numbers both in Leeds and nationally have increased greatly over the three years that MV has been running, and there are nearly 100,000 volunteers nationwide.

Ten volunteers, who are part of the Urdd Millennium Volunteers scheme, are receiving awards for 200 hours’ service, Also attending the Eisteddfod ceremony is 20 year-old mother-of-two Laura Williams, who will be given a special award for her work with 11 to 21 year-olds at The Hideout drop-in centre in Neath Port Talbot.

Most young volunteers have a clear idea of the benefits that volunteering can bring, although these tend to be more focused on personal/career gains than on benefits to the community organisations they are working with directly.

A certificate is given to volunteers after contributing 100 hours, and then an Award of Excellence, signed by the Secretary of State for Department for Education and Skills, to those going on to complete 200 hours in a year.
