Miller County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri.
The county was organized in 1837 and named for John Miller, governor and congressman.
In the county the population was spread out with 26.30% under the age of 18, 8.40% from 18 to 24, 27.40% from 25 to 44, 22.70% from 45 to 64, and 15.30% who were 65 years of age or older.

Cole County was actively engaged in the struggle to establish a railroad hub in St. Louis amid competition from Chicago and Memphis.
Major Miller responded favorably and in January 1890 submitted a report asking Congress to appropriate $220,000 for the construction of a lock and dam on the Osage River at Shipley Shoal 10 miles from the mouth.
