  Miloslav Mecir - Definition, explanation
Mecir had a very strong year in 1987, when he won six singles and six doubles titles.
Mecir defeated Lendl in the final of the Lipton International Players Championships in Key Biscayne, Florida, while Lendl won their matches in the final at Hamburg and the semi-finals of the French Open.
Mecir was a member of the Czechoslovakian teams which won the World Team Cup in 1987 and the inaugural Hopman Cup in 1989.

Mecir was sometimes compared with John Bromwich who played decades earlier.
Mecir was also the last player to use a wood racquet.
Mecir then tightened up so badly that he was hitting 1st serves either way over the baseline or they would not even reach the net on the fly (land about half-way b/w where he served and the net - honestly).

By then Mecir, who had elected to stay at a cheap little hotel on the island instead of at the official hotel situated amongst the concrete jungle of downtown Miami, was loosening up and beginning to enjoy some aspects of America.
If Mecir goes on landing fish the size of Lendl and McEnroe, trout and salmon may temporarily lose their appeal as he swims upstream to the highest source of that tortuous tennis river.
Mats Wilander was suggesting in Dallas that Mecir has the ability to become the No 1 player in the world within two years and, after the way he has been playing in 1987, it would be foolish to bet against such a possibility.

Hrbaty is not at home on the low-bouncing grasscourts, so much so that speculation is that Slovak captain Miloslav Mecir may pull The Dominator from the singles altogether, instead electing to go with the two Karols, Karol Kucera and Karol Beck.
Curren says the extra-softness of the court is due to the rain, but Mecir is calling his bluff and saying the bounce is unnaturally low, so much so that it doesn't make for a fair contest, inferring he may be making a phone call to International Tennis Federation (ITF) officials.

The world number 57 had been selected by captain Miloslav Mecir at Thursday's draw despite not having played a match since the St Petersburg Open in October.
The 23-year-old is still scheduled to play in Saturday's doubles with Michal Mertinak against Ljubicic and Mario Ancic, but his withdrawal from the singles is a huge blow to Mecir as he tries to land a first Davis Cup crown for Slovakia.
The news, just hours before play was due to start in the Sibamac Arena, is more surprising as Beck said on Thursday his knee injury had improved significantly throughout the week.
