Milsons Point station was so overcrowded that a third platform was added in 1920, but remained at this location (easily identified now as the site of the entertainment centre called Luna Park) until the site was required in 1924 for the construction work for the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
As part of the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a new Milsons Point station was built on the northern approach to the bridge and opened in 1932.
The original Milsons Point railway station was opened as the southern terminus of the North Shore line on 1 May 1893.

The railway line between Hornsby and Milsons Point was electrified to compliment the project in 1928.
The construction of the northern approach was well-advanced before the arch was commenced, with Milsons Point Station opening in July 1924.
