Born August 9, 1920, Milton Henschel relocated to Brooklyn, New York, as a teenager in 1934 when his father, Herman George Henschel, moved to the area to work on construction projects in the printeries and residence building for Jehovah's Witnesses.
Milton Henschel's friends and associates will long remember the man of tall stature as a gentle man with vast experience to share but never one to impose.
Milton Henschel is survived by his wife, Lucille, and by his brother, Warren.

Milton Henschel, president since the death of his predecessor Fred Franz, is now neither president of the Watchtower Society, nor even a member of its Board of Directors.
Henschel, 80, was replaced as President by a younger man, Don Adams.
Additionally, the powers and the material assets of the Society have now been divided among a number of separate corporations, each headed by its own president -- none of whom are members of the Governing Body.

The only man on this committee of 6 translators (Karl Klein - no training, Albert D. Schroeder - no training, George D. Gangas - no training, spoke Greek, but did not know Koine Greek -- the language of the New Testament) who remotely knew any of the Biblical languages was Franz.
As we can see his knowledge was limited and his interpolation of whatever theology he decided into the NWT would go unchecked.

The Watchtower's publication, "The Divine Name That Will Endure Forever" announces that it was a "apostate" Christian church that removed the divine name and has substituted " Lord" in its place.
However, they have based, in part, this erroneous idea on some guesswork published by Professor George Howard in an article in the March 1978 issue of Biblical Archaeological Review.
Howard's evidence was slim and in a more detailed article published the previous year in The Journal of Biblical Literature he sets forth what he proposes as "a theory." The question that the Watchtower leaders never considered is whether Howard's guesses are supported by the evidence.

According to Watch Tower spokesman Robert Johnson, Franz was the last remaining member of the sect's hierarchy to have personally associated and worked with the movement's founder, Charles Taze Russell.
Franz was replaced as Watch Tower president on December 30 by Milton G. Henschel, 72, a third-generation Witness who had been one of the Society's vice presidents since 1977.
An assessment of Franz's impact on the Witness movement, along with expert forecasts on the cult's future, will appear in the Spring 1993 issue of the JOURNAL.
