Redways (Milton Keynes) - Review - Rape and pillage on the Redways
The Redway system extends for over 250 kilometres and will take you into most parts of Milton Keynes.
The Redways are a bit like the concrete cows really, if you are ever in Milton Keynes, have a look out for the reddish brown paths so you can say you have seen them, but don’t make a special effort.

House of Commons - Transport, Local Government and the Regions - Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence
There is a perception that the Milton Keynes redway network is prone to criminal activity, because of a lack of direct supervision and the indirect routes followed by many of the links.
— that it does not recognise some of the unique cost liabilities inherent in the design of a New Town—such as the redway system and the extensive (and expensive) system of urban grid roads, which are only subject to the national speed limit and therefore treated as "rural roads" for SSA grant calculation purposes.
This has dramatically reduced the incident of car-crime in Central Milton Keynes.

"MILTON KEYNES REDWAYS & LEISURE ROUTES" - John Franklin's study of a completely segregated system shows cyclist safety is on UK roadways not the redways.
On a distance travelled basis, a cyclist is 7 times more likely to be involved in accident on the off-road system than on arterial roads, and 5 times more likely to suffer an injury.

 Milton Keynes - Network
Away from the Grid Roads, each area of Milton Keynes has a Local Road system which are often more "meandering".
They are called "Redways" because of their red asphalt surface, however where they travel though the parks they have a more rural brown gravel surface.
Traffic "calming" devices such as ramps are also used, especially where a path or redway crosses such a local road.

BBC NEWS Have Your Say Winter travel chaos: Your stories
I'm a driver but prefer to cycle to work, particularly on the Milton Keynes redway system.
The redways (paths) are solid ice at times.
How would you people feel if like us, you have to shovel snow from your driveways and paths surrounding your house from November to May. Stop whining at your dusting of snow and remember in April/May when you are drinking cider in your back gardens we will still be shovelling the white stuff!
