Sanuki is the old name for Kagawa prefecture, Tokushima's northern neighbour, and the thick white noodles, made from wheat flour, salt and water, are the prefecture's most famous delicacy.
Knowing how fast Japanese people slurp down a bowl of udon, I couldn't imagine the actual eating part of the trip lasting long, anyway; we'll probably do a little sightseeing or shopping in Takamatsu while we're there, I naively supposed.
Realising that today's pilgrimage is about udon and udon alone, I give up my hopes of doing any sightseeing today; the shrine will have to wait for my next visit.
