 The Cheapening of the Comics
True, comics are a popular art, and yes, I believe their primary obligation is to entertain, but comics can go beyond that, and when they do, they move from silliness to significance.
The first comic strip cartoonists were staff artists of major newspapers, and consequently, from the beginning, cartoonists were regarded as simple employees of their publishers rather than artists.
The comic strip came into being as a staff-produced graphic, and comics have never escaped the perception that they are a newspaper "feature," like a weather reap, instead of a forum for individual expression.

 FAILURE - The Manifesto
Comics are visual literature, and as such, the literary aspect must be as emphasized as the visual.
Comics on the Internet are definitely worthy of experimentation as a new medium, but should not be touted as the "Savior of Comics." The Internet should be seen as another option in format to the creator.
Comic books are not a cult, and interest in them should not obligate anyone to "induct new members." However, an example must be set through good publicity and quality stories so that new readers will be interested for the proper reasons.

It's only fitting that the magazine where the Philippine comics industry was born in 1929 to be still in publication today. In the face of the falling industry in the early '90s, a lot of young artists, including myself, decided to create our own comics and publish them ourselves.
Eisner compared comics reading to map, chart or statistical reading in that though there is a sparsity of written text, the information is nevertheless conveyed in full by the combination of images and symbols used and comprehended by the reader.
If comics works are aimed to help elevate the literacy level of our populace, such an excigency demands that the visual storyteller be a thoroughly knowledgeable person of symbols, their meanings, the written word, and a host of other disciplines, and not confine himself to mere knowledge of "art".

 RPGnet: Review of Squadron UK
Consider your favorite comic book superheroes : if you know the characters well, you can easily tell how strong they are, how resilient, how dextrous or even how mentally resistant they are — but you would really have a difficult time trying to tell how ‘intelligent’ or how ‘charismatic’ they are.
In the comics, the vast majority of heroes could be rated as « smart enough », which shows that intelligence, in its broadest sense, is not really a significant trait here.
And just like in the comics, a single attack by a major villain is usually more dangerous for a hero than the guns of a dozen thugs — not because this major villain is inherently deadlier or stronger, but simply because he IS the major villain.

Namor and the Atlanteans are indeed booted out of Latveria, and in the process Mimic learns that he has some inner turmoil while the rest of the team learns that Doctor Doom makes a pretty cruddy ally.
I was moving along pretty well most of the way through, thinking that a lot of things were working really nicely- the Mimic solo adventure was pretty cool, and the Exiles-Doom squabbling was hilarious.
I'm taking this part too seriously, maybe the point of the book was to look into Mimic's inner turmoil rather than to show us the story of the liberation of Latveria (if you can call putting it back under control of Doctor Doom "liberation").
