Mimico Council provided a centrally-located site for the new library at Station Road and Stanley Avenue and S. Coon and Son, a Toronto architectural firm, was hired to design the building.

The history of Wesley Mimico United Church prior to 1925 is the history of two churches, Wesley Methodist Church, dedicated in 1863, and St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, dedicated in 1891.
The Presbyterian church was located at the corner of Mimico Avenue and Church St. (Royal York Road) and the Wesley Methodist Church was built on property now occupied by the John English schoolyard near the gymnasium - close neighbours.
The Methodist congregation worshipped there from 1863 until 1923, when they moved to their newly built church on the corner of Station Road and Mimico Avenue in 1923 and in 1925 became Wesley Mimico United Church.
