  Mina Harker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mina and Lucy symbolise Victorian era womanhood and the sensibility of the age but while Mina stays resolute, Lucy's sexual tendencies are to be her end.
Mina slowly succumbs to the blood of the vampire that flows through her veins, switching back and forth from a state of consciousness to a state of semi-trance during which she is telepathically connected with Dracula.
This version of Mina has a past relationship with Dorian Gray, a fact that the traitorous immortal uses to his advantage, and attracts the romantic interests of Henry Jekyll and Tom Sawyer (A deleted scene on the DVD showed her hinting to Sawyer that she may feel the same way about him).

 CliffsNotes::Dracula:Book Summary and Study Guide
Mina Murray, an assistant "schoolmistress," is engaged to Jonathan Harker.
Mina reports that Lucy and Arthur are preparing for their wedding and that she still hasn't heard from Jonathan for a month; interestingly, the date of this entry is also the date of the last entry that Jonathan Harker made in the journal that he kept in Count Dracula's castle in Transylvania.
Mina is also concerned about Lucy because Lucy has once again "taken to her old habit of walking in her sleep." In a late entry of the 6th of August, Mina notes that the fishermen claim that a harsh storm is approaching.

The character of Mina Harker in Dracula is somewhat at odds with the character of Mina Murray in League.
If I have spent a significant space on Mina Murray and her Victorian counterparts, it is because the stereotype of how the Victorians saw women, as the prim, demure, soft-spoken, chaste, delicate shrinking violet, is the most common and therefore requires the most space to overcome.
Mina Murray is not so much archetypal in the sense of having set the character type; she is archetypal in representing so many of the characteristics of the character type.

I'm not really sure why you think Mina Murray is somehow unique -- she is Mina Harker, reverted to her maiden name after the events in "Dracula." It says as much in the comic, on the first page of the first issue.
This is probably why they changed Mina's outfit to leather -- because they've turned it into an action picture in which she fights.
The problem with this is that it's a complete betrayl of the Mina Murray character to have her using martial arts.

Although she was the person who actually assembled the notable gents in the comic books, it seems that in the film she's been given an enhanced bodice, overt vampirism, and a backseat to Connery's Quartermain and the questionable addition of two more crew members.
Murray is a strong female character in a superhero comic, rare enough as that is even for Alan Moore, and as much as I'm dreading the potential clusterfuck that will be LXG, I shudder most at the indignities committed upon her character (compared to which I'm sure this mistake will seem a kindly gesture).
In the series we don't have the foggiest clue who Mina is until the, what?, fourth book or so, because she goes by the name "Mina Harker" and gives few clues as to her background.

This death also comes about at the hands of another member of the League, and it acts to nicely reaffirm the idea that while this character may have been cast into the role of a hero in this miniseries, he is very far from being someone that one could consider a hero.
