The average growth of the Torishima, Tsubamesaki colony, between 1950 and 1977 was 2.5 adults per year; between 1978 and 1991 the average population increase was 11 adults per year.
Torishima is under Japanese Government ownership and management and is managed for the conservation of wildlife.
The recent rate of annual growth in the Torishima short-tailed albatross colony (7.8 percent) approaches the maximum potential rate of increase (8 percent) that Fisher (1976) estimated for Laysan albatross in the 1960s, before fisheries bycatch and contaminants affected that population.

Japan's Minami-Torishima Island is located at latitude 24'18" North and longitude 153'58" East, and is approximately 1,900 Km from Tokyo.
The administrative district of Minami Torishima is Ogasawara Village, Tokyo Prefecture, its area is about 1 square km and circumference is about 6 km, and is the Japan's easternmost island.
Shinroku Mizutani decided to exploit this island and landed on Minami Torishima on Dec. 3, 1896.

Torishima is an active volcano approximately 394 m (1,300 ft) high and 2.6 kilometers (km) (1.6 miles) wide (H. Hasegawa pers.
Several parasites were documented historically on short-tailed albatrosses on Torishima: a blood-sucking tick that attacks its host's feet, a feather louse, and a carnivorous beetle (Austin 1949).
Because the population size is small, and breeding is limited to two islands, a catastrophic volcanic or weather event on Torishima has the potential not only to significantly reduce the numbers of birds in the world, it also could reduce the worldwide breeding population to a level where the risk of extinction is high.

I like the synthetic scenery as it gives a good feel of the area without the slow frame rate and other drawbacks of photo scenery.
The big islands of Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku are included but the scenery also includes the small chain of islands off the south coast of Kyushu plus the far off islands of Iwo Jima, Minami Torishima, and more.
Basically this means that there is a lot of area to fly with a lot of cities, islands and airports to visit.

As far as I am aware of, there are no active hams from Minami Torishima(another JD1) presently.
Minami Torishima is the restricted area only for the Meteorological Agency and the Self-Defense Force.
So we just have to wait for some hams related to those two organiztions to land on the Island.
