Mindhunters is not a particularly good film, but it's the sort of movie that you might enjoy watching in a dorm with your college buddies.
Mindhunters was actually filmed before all that, and it is easily the better film, but for some reason it was withheld from theatres in its home country, while it spent the past year and then some touring various European, Asian and Middle Eastern territories.

"Mindhunters" was one of those movies that tries to ratchet up the suspense by keeping the identity of the killer in doubt so that the audience never knows who is in danger.

As the end credits to the long-on-the-shelf “Mindhunters” rolled, I began talking with a colleague of mine and claimed, with my usual sense of restraint, that it was perhaps the single dumbest and most implausible thriller that I had ever seen in my life.
Like “Identity,” “Mindhunters” is an uneasy mash-up between a serial-killer mystery, in which people desperately try to piece together a series of seemingly unrelated clues to discover the identity of a madman before he strikes again, and a mad-slasher epic, in which characters pop up only to be killed off in gruesomely elaborate ways.
This time around, the victims and the investigators are one and the same—a group of FBI profiler trainees sent to an isolated island training facility for a weekend exercise in which they will attempt to identify and track down a “serial killer” in a set-up devised by their unorthodox teacher (Val Kilmer).

In "Mindhunters," a thriller directed by Renny Harlin, the suspects and/or victims are assembled on an isolated island that has been rigged up by the FBI as a training facility.
To the Agatha Christie formula, "Mindhunters" adds another literary inspiration: George Orwell's "The Decline of the English Murder," a brilliant essay in which he celebrated the golden age of British poisoning and other ingenious methods of disposal.

One of Mindhunters' strengths is that it's difficult to guess who the culprit is because Harlin and his screenwriters don't play fair with the audience.
Here's a film that exhibits all kinds of joy in uncoiling a story with no ending, or an ending that's so arbitrary you get the feeling that the filmmakers just threw names in a hat to see who their killer would be.

The thriller Mindhunters takes a different approach conceptually (a take on “Ten Little Indians”) - a group of seven A-type personality (for the most part) psychological profilers-in-training stuck in the same peril their studied victims have experienced.
The group is part of the Investigative Support Unit to be exact, a unit of the FBI’s Quantico training complex dealing with identifying the forensic psychology of serial killers to better track, understand, and ultimately capture them.
A world where the killer is not only supposed to be one of the good guys, but also is closely tied to his victims in a startling manner.

 Moviehole.net - Mindhunters
With most serial killer films, especially those with a name or two on the film’s poster, it’s usually pretty easy to predict who’s going to be the killer, who’s going to be the hero, and what essentially is going to go down for every minute of the film’s duration.
How refreshing it is then to discover that Renny Harlin’s “Mindhunters” robs, shreds and rids of ‘The dummies guide to making a serial killer movie” booklet and instead heads back into the annals for something genuinely original, surprising and wholly exciting.
To say much about it’s storyline, or delve too much into the plot would be robbing potential audiences of the good time surprises it encompasses, so lets it rest that it’s guaranteed you’ll have a good time — as long as you keep the twists twisted and the surprises surprising.

Mindhunters is the latest of more than a half-dozen riffs on Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians.

Sent to a remote island, a group of seven "mindhunters" are thrust into a training situation that becomes all-to-real.
Given the order to solve a series of fictional murders the task becomes personal as members of their squad begin turning up dead in what seems to be an elaborate group of traps designed specifically for each situation.
Overall, Mindhunters is far better than its $4 million box-office take would suggest, but before you shell out too much money for it, pick it up as a rental and make sure you will watch it more than once.

Mindhunters Listing at Box Office Prophets
The mindhunters of the title are an elite group FBI psychological profiler trainees who are isolated on an island to solve a mock crime as part of their training.
The only problem is that one of the trainees is actually a serial killer, and now he or she has been trained in the FBI’s most advanced crime solving techniques.
Kilmer and Slater are also quite a bit removed from their biggest box office successes as well, which also leaves the film without a proven box office draw and forces the film to rely on its merits alone.

The mystery/thriller, directed by Renny Harlin and scripted by Wayne Kramer and Kevin Brodbin adds a few unconventional twists to the tired "tracking down a serial killer" plot, but ends up outfoxing itself with a few too many narrative convolutions and contrivances.
Mindhunters starts out strong - despite some clunky acting, the first hour is nicely paced and the time passes effortlessly.
There are two essential principles of motion picture mysteries: (1) the film must excel at misdirection, and (2) the film must know when to stop the misdirection and reveal the "truth." Mindhunters has a good grasp of precept #1, but doesn't have a clue about #2.

And so, in Mindhunters, the relationship between realness and not is especially fraught.
On one level, this is the project of a formula film like Mindhunters, to offer up stereotypes or clichéd plot points and tweak them ever so slightly so you pretend for milliseconds at a time that you're surprised by anything that happens.
But on another level, the film is part of another project altogether, the LL star-making project.

Creepy, tense, and enigmatic, Renny Harlin's Mindhunters is a grisly cross between Agatha Christie's whodunit classic And Then There Were None and Jonathan Demme's horrifying The Silence of the Lambs.

I’d seen the trailer/previews for Mindhunters on several different DVD’s that I’d rented with the Mistress Flames over the past few months, and we were both intrigued, it looked like our kind of movie.
The ending came and I was blown away, it’s a murder/mystery kind of flick so it doesn’t end on a twist, but the reveal I never saw coming, the killer even takes us back in the film to illustrate to us when we should have had it, but I never took the bait.
I was surprised at the amount of gore in Mindhunters, granted it’s not over the top but I’ve seen lots of straight up horror flicks with less gore in it than this, so I was happy to say the least.
