USS Mindoro (CVE-120) was laid down by Todd-Pacific Shipyards, Inc., (A city in west central Washington on an arm of Puget Sound south of Seattle) Tacoma, (A state in northwestern United States on the Pacific) Washington, 2 January 1945; launched 27 June 1945; sponsored by Mrs.
Assigned to Carrier Division 14, she began carrier air training operations along the east coast, and in May she joined ships of the 8th Fleet for exercises in waters of the (The string of islands between North and South America; a popular resort area) West Indies.
Subsequently, she was disposed of in June 1960 and scrapped at (Formerly a Crown Colony on the coast of southern China in Guangdong province; leased by China to Britain in 1842 and returned in 1997; one of the world's leading commercial centers) Hong Kong later that year.

I had the opportunity to go aboard the Mindoro when she operated in the Korean conflict for a short stay, still using the Piston engine corsair for ground support of the troops.

Concept/Program: This group of ships was converted early in the CVE program, when the need for carriers was greatest and the number of available hulls was small.
Conversion included removal of all old guns; entire flight deck was converted to an "antenna farm", the island was rebuilt, forward flight deck modified and enclosed bow fitted; 4 dual 3/50 AA added.

U.S. ESCORT CARRIERS of World War II Lightly armored, slower than the fleet carriers and with far less defensive armament and aircraft, yet in great need, early escort carriers were quickly converted from existing cruiser and oiler hulls.

She was launched 27 June 1945, commissioned 4 December 1945, and spent most of the next 10 years with the Atlantic Fleet in training capacity.
My guess is that in those early post-Pearl Harbor days the idea was to cut down on the sun's reflections, which might otherwise give a Jap scout an early indication that the ship was a carrier.
