The Minerva was a Belgian built luxury automobile built from 1902 to 1938.
With the financial crisis in the 1930's the company was reformed as Société Nouvelle Minerva but in 1936 merged with the other major Belgian constructor Imperia.
Imperia continued to make Minervas for a year and the AP until 1938 and from 1937 badged some of their cars and trucks for export to England and France as Minerva-Imperias.

The original Minerva to East Canton leg was used from about 1913 to about 1940, but as cars became bigger and faster, the width and tight turns of the road became intolerable.
An afternoon exploring the road between East Canton and Minerva is worth the time for the historical minded, but it should be remembered that parts of the road are on private property and should not be trespassed, and starting and stopping on a busy highway such as this could be dangerous.
Through out the 1930's the Minerva to East Canton section was improved to it's present condition and the original superhighway of brick was retired for use as back streets or removed altogether.

Although the principle of the sliding or sleeve valve was not original with Charles Y. Knight, it was his patented version that caught on with a number of automobile manufacturers starting with English Daimler in their 1909 models.
