		The nearest main railway station to Portmeirion is at Minffordd, one-and-a-half miles away.
		Alternatively, travel 3 miles further to Porthmadog (a town, whereas Minffordd is only a village) and take a taxi from the station; it's about 3 miles from there.
		Portmeirion is just half a mile from Boston Lodge station on the Ffestiniog railway, a local line with no connections towards London, which intersects the main line at Minffordd: on arriving at Minffordd you could check the times of trains on this line which might save you the walk.

		Minffordd station, being built as it is next a very busy main road, is not conducive to good sound recordings due to the sound of traffic passing by.
		Moving a little further up the line but still close to Minffordd station it is possible to get away from the noise of road traffic and from this location we hear the other ex Penrhyn Quarry Hunslet 2-4-0STT 'Linda' departing in fine style for Blaenau Ffestiniog on 31st August 1998.
		After Minffordd the line rises at 1 in 82 and passes Gwyndy, one of my favourite places on the railway for lineside recording.

		Most specials along the Cambrian Coast stopped at Minffordd for this reason, and this made it possible to photograph the trains at both Penrhyndeudraeth and here.
		Having climbed up from Penrhyndeudraeth to Minffordd, 25188 and 25147 head back down to sea level to cross the marshes towards Porthmadog, on a special from Exeter to Pwllheli on 26th August 1979.
