  Stapleford Miniature Railway
Stapleford Miniature Railway was the creation and inspiration of the Second Lord Gretton of Stapleford Park.
The first line of the railway was opened on May 18, 1957 and ran from the old stable hill station and car park to the main hall.
Lady Jenny Gretton agreed and in 1992, the 'Friends of the Stapleford Miniature Railway' was formed with Lady Gretton as Chairman.

MINIATURE railways are so often regarded as something of a novelty that it is not always realized that as much care and precision are required in their operation and control as in a full-sized line.
The Eskdale Railway introduced the "Lentz" poppet valve gear to this country in an engine named the "River Esk." In the Lentz and similar poppet-valve motions steam is admitted to the cylinders, and released on exhaust, by means of lifting valves, instead of the slide-valves or piston-valves of ordinary locomotive practice.
One of the smallest of seaside miniature railways is the 7-1/4 in.

The Council reported to the Inquiry that the miniature railway at the Castle had recently been extended into ancient woodland in the Castle grounds and that a number of new railway buildings and structures, including a ticket office, engine store and footbridge, had been built, all without the necessary planning consents.
The owner of the Castle Peter Hobcraft had initially advertised the opening of the railway in the summer of 2001 as part of a "3-in-1" scheme linked to a trip on the Spa Valley Railway at Groombridge and a ride on a vintage double decker bus between Groombridge and the Castle.
In the summer of 2002 the miniature railway was advertised as open to the public through the National Gardens Scheme before the Castle was removed from the scheme in August 2002.

 Littledown Miniature Railway
When the Bournemouth and District Society of Model Engineers designed and built the miniature railway in Kings Park over 35 years ago their aim was to construct the finest raised track in the country.
Their new miniature railway at the Littledown Park, builds on the experience gained over the intervening 35 years.
The “services” needed to prepare the miniature steam locomotives ready for hauling trains on the railway is provided, together with an “engine shed” close to the track.

The Audley End Miniature Railway is a delightful 1.5 mile ride on Lord Braybrooke's private 10 ¼" gauge railway through Estate woodland.
The children all enjoy looking out for the teddies that live in the wood, while the adults are reminded of a nostalgic era, especially on Sundays when steam engines haul the carriages.
We have a shop on site which is currently stocked with railway memorabilia, including goods from the Thomas the Tank Engine range and books of the history of the railway.  A selection of confectionary and ice-creams are also available along with various beverages.

Sadly the original Miniature Railway is no longer in operation at Sandtoft and the track has been lifted, but here are a couple of photographs to remind us of what once was.
