Minimalist Syntax : Exploring the Structure of English (Cambridge Textbooks in Linguistics)
Building on the theory of principles and parameters and, in particular, on principles of economy of derivation and representation, the minimalist framework takes Universal Grammar as providing a unique computational system, with derivations driven by morphological properties, to which the syntactic variation of languages is also restricted.
The result is the 1995 Chomsky essays, in which relatively well known and primitive problems of English syntax are clothed in practically unreadable technical language, to lead to highly artificial pretentious solutions which are as counterintuitive as you please.

The theoretical flaws in these textbooks are symptomatic of problems in the Minimalist Program at large and, in the bulk of this review article, we use the books to explore underlying problems with the programmatic Minimalist approach to PandP theory.
Consideration of these issues reveals Minimalism to be, at heart, a kind of unification-based, lexicalist framework, but one which eschews formalisation or even just explicitness (contra Chomsky 1957) — with attendant deleterious consequences — and which refuses to give up the unnecessary mechanism of movement, even though it has arguably outgrown it.

Minimalist Syntax: Exploring the Structure of English:052154274X:Andrew Radford:eCampus.com
Andrew Radford's latest textbook, Minimalist Syntax and the Syntax of English, provides a concise, clear, and accessible introduction to current work in syntactic theory, drawing on the key concepts of Chomsky's Minimalist Programme.
Assuming little or no prior knowledge of syntactic theory, Radford takes students through a diverse range of topics in English syntax - such as categories and features, merger, null constituents, movement, case, and split projections - and shows how the 'computational component' works within the minimalist framework.

Having studied this Core Syntax for almost a semester, I get confued with some of the ideas in the book, especially when going through those obscure examples and explanations.
Part of the purpose of the course was to evaluate the suitability of this book as a text (and minimalism as content material) for linguistics majors taking a 200 level syntax class in the future.

Optimality and Competition in Syntax edited by Pilar Barbosa, Danny Fox, Paul Hagstrom, Martha McGinnis, and David Pesetsky Recent developments in linguistic theory have led to a reconsideration of the role of optimality in the overall architecture of the grammar.
Writing from a broad range of empirical and theoretical perspectives, the contributors to this volume examine the role of competition in syntax and in syntactic interfaces with semantics, phonology, and pragmatics, as well as implications for language acquisition and processing.

The role of the linguist is to present the fundamentals of the minimalist program of contemporary generative grammar.
An outstanding achievement on behalf of Uriagereka, this book is a must for anyone seriously interested in contemporary syntactic research within the Chomskyan paradigm, as well as for anyone interested in syntax in particular and linguistics in general as parts of natural science.
Presented as a dialogue between the Linguist (L) and the Other (O), where the other is a natural scientist, the book goes through both the major philosophical aspects of the generative enterprise in linguistics, and the major tenets of Chomsky's (1995) "Minimalist Program" and its intricacies.
