Minimo developers have already completed basic work on the project, but they are looking for extra developers to work on improving the user interface, Turner said on the MozillaZine news site.
Although Minimo is not as well-known as Firefox, Mozilla’s most popular browser for PCs, it has already attracted interest from device manufacturers, including two mobile-phone makers, that need an embedded browser.

Minimo had a lot of "impact" but there were something missing in the higher part of the spectrum, and -in general- the soud had too forwardness expecially in some live recordings.
Minimo need only a variable power supply to drive the for TDAs 1543.

I hope they eventually port Minimo to the Pocket PC; I have an iPAQ 6315 PPC Phone Edition and happily abandoned Pocket IE in favor of the far superior Thunderhawk browser [bitstream.com].
I hate to say this, but at the moment minimo is nowhere near being able to compete with opera.
Minimo was introduced 10 months ago ( previous mention [geekzone.co.nz]).

Due to its emphasis on the OEM market, developers have only created a build of Minimo 0.1 for the ARM architecture, although Turner said he will release a build for the Intel architecture soon, so that consumers can try out the technology.

"With Minimo, if it renders OK in Firefox, it will render OK in Minimo." The technology works by shrinking less important images, such as banner ads, and wrapping columns around to make a single column, so that users only need to scroll vertically.
Minimo 0.3 will also automatically complete URLs as they are being typed in and the functionality will be improved to allow users to zoom in and out of Web pages.

The aim is to provide a free, open-source web browser in a small, computationally-lightweight package that would excel at rendering web pages on the small screens and small memory spaces of mobile devices -- specifically mobile phones, but also on PDAs and other portables.
If nothing else, the cash infusion from Nokia for Minimo will help Mozilla continue to push out browsers for the PC market, as well.

Even though I understand that Minimo is mainly focussing on the highend pda market, you should remember that in Europe and Asia (where most of the gadgets with phone capabilities are sold) there are sold a lot less pdas than Advanced smartphones.

According to the founders, as quoted by NMC, the Minimo project has completed much of the "footprint" work, which involved pulling a minimalistic codebase from the main Mozilla tree.
Minimo targets devices with 32MB to 64MB of RAM, which the founders say is really the minimum threshhold for any modern browser, as quoted by NMC.
Minimo depends upon GTK, and releases target the Familiar distribution (mainly for iPAQs), and the GPE palmtop environment, according to the interview.
