The Minister of State, Ministry of Defence, Shri UV Krishnam Raju, informed the Rajya Sabha today that a Committee under the Chairmanship of Lt General Pankaj Joshi was ordered by the Army Headquarters in October last year to examine and review important aspects pertaining to the Officer’s Cadre of the Army.
Giving this information the Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence Shri U V Krishnam Raju said that the global positioning system is an electronic device receiving satellite transmissions to determine the geographical position of the platform on which it is located, which in the case of fishing is a boat.
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence Shri U V Krishnam Raju informed the Rajya Sabha today, that while there is an overall shortage of engineers and aeronautical engineers in the Indian Air Force, however the combat units are being manned almost at 100% level by making some internal adjustments.

 Singapore:Defence ministry rejects KL intrusion claims
In its statement yesterday, Mindef said that Singapore's Minister of State for Defence, Mr Matthias Yao, had given Parliament a comprehensive response on the subject on Oct 12.
The ministry was responding to statements made in the Malaysian parliament, the Dewan Rakyat, by the Deputy Defence Minister, Datuk Dr Abdullah Fadzil Che Wan, on Wednesday, as reported by Bernama.
Bernama reported him as saying it was "usual" for Singapore to deny such accusations as it did not want to look bad in front of Singaporeans in facing allegations of wrongdoing.

He was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Defence in December 1984 by Lee Kuan Yew, and was subsequently promoted to Acting Minister for Trade and Industry in 1986, and the Second Minister for Defence.

 Singapore increases defence budget by 7.4 percent
The defence outlay accounts for 31.2 percent of the $29.68-billion national budget for the fiscal year ending March 2006 that Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lee Hsien Loong unveiled before parliament.
According to the budget statement, the defence ministry's mission is to "enhance Singapore's peace and security, and should deterrence and diplomacy fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory" over any aggressor.
INGAPORE'S military was the big winner in the national budget unveiled on Friday, Feb 18, with defence spending for the next financial year to grow by 7.4 percent to S$9.26 billion.
