The Minister for Finance is the title held by the Irish government minister responsible for all financial and monetary matters.
He or she is in charge of the Department of Finance (An Roinn Airgeadais), responsible for all financial matters in the Republic of Ireland.
One of the most important aspects of the Minister's work is the creation of the annual Budget which is announced to the Dáil in a speech delivered on the first Wednesday of December.

The Minister for Finance has agreed to become Ireland's next EU Commissioner, paving the way for a major Cabinet reshuffle in the autumn and an attempt to redefine the Government before the next election.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Cowen, is now seen as the most likely successor to Mr McCreevy when the Taoiseach announces a Cabinet reshuffle, most likely in late September.

 Minister Visits Donaldson Timber Engineering: News from Donaldson Timber Engineering
Mr Brian Cowen, T.D, Ireland's Minister for Finance, visited the recently opened manufacturing facility of Donaldson Timber Engineering, at Bay Road Industrial Estate, Mountmellick.
During his visit, the Minister toured the factory which has capacity to manufacture up to 3000 roof trusses per week, all to I.S 193 standards.
He expressed particular interest in the level of automation in the plant, commenting: "It is good to see new manufacturing companies utilising modern technology to support quality construction within our growing house building industry."

The former Junior Minister, Ivor Callely, has apologised to the Minister for Finance, Brian Cowen, for dominating media coverage during Mr Cowen's Budget speech.
He is reported to have told Minister Cowen that he regretted any embarrassment he may have caused him, saying he was 'not in the right frame of mind' due to stress.
Mr Callely resigned as Junior Minister in the Department of Transport last month, following a number of controversies surrounding his personal staff and work done on his home.
