The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food was a UK government department, first created in September 1793 (relaunched in 1889) and called the Board of Agriculture.
It was the last Ministry in the United Kingdom Government not to be a Department of State.
The Ministry of Defence continues to be known as a Ministry although it has been a Department since the 1960s.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Cooperatives (MAFC) is the lead public sector institution responsible for formulating, executing, monitoring and coordinating the GOB 's agricultural and food policies.
This is so because 90% of all manufacturing (which constitutes 17% of GDP and 12% of employment) is based on input (sugar, citrus concentrate, animal feed, agriculture chemical, furniture, jams, jellies, chips, juices, milk, ice cream, sausages, packaging etc) from/for the primary sectors of agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
The increase is largely attributed to the increase in the fisheries sub sector from 2% to 5% of GDP.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries work will be taking place within the context of government's overall fiscal plan — a fiscal plan that is on track and ahead of schedule, a plan that is prudent, responsible and focused on the future.

Following a veterinary inspection conducted in France by the U.S. Agriculture Department between January 15 and February 5, 2004, the United States informed the French Agriculture Ministry of its decision to suspend the importation of French meats (cold cuts, foie gras, etc.).
The American agriculture secretary is emphasizing their non-compliance with the U.S. health safety system, particularly with respect to the application of their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system.
As soon as the inspections were concluded, French agriculture minister Hervé Gaymard, working closely with David Byrne, the European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, had numerous contacts with the U.S. authorities to seek a common assessment of the situation and solutions liable to fulfill the expectations of both parties.

Last week, Hervé Gaymard, Minister of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Rural Affairs, asked the French dairy board (ONILAIT — Office national interprofessionnel du lait et des produits laitiers) and the relevant departmental agricultural and forestry directorates to report on the consequences in France of the bankruptcy of the Italian Parmalat group.
The Minister has written to Giovanni Alemanno, the Italian Agriculture and Forestry Minister, asking him to enable French producers also to benefit from the various measures the Italian government has put, and will put in place to protect the milk producers.
The "partial unemployment mechanism" will be triggered in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour and Solidarity so that employees whose working hours have been reduced may receive a specific benefit partially compensating for the reduction in their pay.

On March 27, 2002, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries (MAFF) had determined that USDA's national organic standards for the production, handling and processing of plant-based organic agricultural products meet the requirements of the Japanese Agricultural Standards.
USDA considers the prohibition of these three substances by MAFF to be based on the uses as specified by the National List; e.g., lignin sulfonate as a dust suppressant, flotation agent, or chelating agent.
USDA and MAFF envision robust, cooperative communications on issues related to the implementation and operation of the export arrangement.

I am the Ginseng and Special Crops Horticulturist for the BC Ministry of Agriculture Food and Fisheries, and am horrified by the lack of information that the letter was constructed from.
The Minister of Agriculture would not allow ginseng production if it was destroying the land, or, if hay grown on ginseng land was killing horses.
Regarding the issue of ginseng as a health food, we do not claim BC ginseng to be organic (see Eric's comments).
