The Ministry of Defence Guard Service provides British Ministry of Defence (MOD) establishments with guard and security services.
The Guard Service deals with access and pass control, key control, vehicle and personnel searching, security patrols of buildings and perimeter fences, dog patrols, CCTV, and alarm monitoring.
It frequently shares facilities with and works hand in hand with the Ministry of Defence Police, although its members are unarmed civilian security guards without police powers.

Proposals to set up a Coast Guard service were first taken seriously in the early 'seventies, when a committee was set up to examine the problem of seaborne smuggling and the feasibility of establishing such a service.
The duties and functions of the service were formally defined in Coast Guard Act, which was passed on the 18 August 1978, and came into effect on the 19 August.
The Coast Guard was to become responsible for the policing of over 2.01 million square kilometres of ocean, with the stated objective of providing offshore security, marine environmental security, coastal security, marine safety, scientific assistance and national defence.

According to Indian military sources, besides ATR, Dassault Aviation of France, CASA of Spain, SAAB of Sweden, Embraer of Brazil, Antonov of Ukraine, Ilyushin Aviation of Russia, Dornier of Germany, Bombardier of Canada and Lockheed Martin of the US have submitted their quotations for the $27.7 million order.
The proposals are under the consideration of the defence ministry and a decision is expected this year.

No not a contract company to the MOD, but I am told that they do have their own guarding outfit, apart from the MOD Police, the guards are civilians.
This service is actually signed up to the army and therefore can carry firearms and have all the perks of a squaddie.
In the interest of fairness Mick you forgot to mention that each of the services has its own police arm, the Royal Military Police, The Royal Air Force Police and the Naval Regulating Branch all have a security task as well as their normal police role.

The VHP was formed last May by the Queen’s Harbour Master in Portsmouth, Commander Tom Herman RN, to support the work of the full-time Harbour Patrol manned by specially trained officers of the Ministry of Defence Guard Service.
Equipped with two vessels, the unpaid volunteers have made a major contribution to maritime safety by providing advice, guidance and help to mariners using the harbour.
A jetski donor has already been found, and the vehicle will enter service in the next summer season.
