The Ministry of Transport and Construction was formed on October 31, 2005 as the result of the Council of Ministers’ decision of changing the name of the previous Ministry of Infrastructure.
From the commencement of the activity of the Ministry of Transport and Construction to the end of the year, there shall be given under use to almost 210 km of highways (over 270 km further is under construction) and 30 bypasses of cities (a further 24 under construction).
The tasks of the Ministry of Transport and Construction also cover the execution of issues in the scope of construction and architecture, housing policy and management, spatial management and development support and the revitalization of cities as well as state aid in the repayment of housing credits.

Currently, the ministry regulates and commissions four individual government statutory boards: the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Public Transport Council (PTC), which implement the ministry’s policies and tactical directions.
MOT was awarded the ISO 9002 certification on 19 June 2000 for organisational excellence; it was also the recipient of the People Developer Award in October 2001 and it achieved Singapore Quality Class status in October 2003.
