An annual Winter Carnival is held in the city, and the state fairgrounds are in the Midway district, between St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Paul became territorial capital in 1849 and state capital when Minnesota was admitted to the Union in 1858.
Paul has a notable chamber orchestra, opera company, conservatory, and several musical theaters.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Archdiocese of Saint Paul
On 2 June, 1907, the corner-stone was laid for the new cathedral of St. Paul; and a year afterwards, 31 May, 1908, a similar ceremony was performed with reference to the new pro-cathedral of Minneapolis.
At his arrival in St. Paul Bishop Cretin found only a couple of priests with small congregations at St. Paul, Mendota, and Pembina; at his death there were 29 churches and 35 stations with about 20 priests attending to the spiritual needs of the Catholic people.
Bishop Loras of Dubuque, accompanied by Father Pelamourgues, visited the few Catholics in 1839; in 1840 he sent them a resident priest in Father Lucien Galtier, who in 1844 was replaced by Father Augustine Ravoux, for more than sixty years a priest in the Diocese of St. Paul.

 Lanterne Rouge Bicycle Club
Lanterne Rouge is a bicycle club based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area since 1995.
Some other interests incude light touring, commuting to work by bike (Mark Kotz was featured on MPR in a contest between his bike and a neighbor in a car commuting into downtown St. Paul), etc. Lanterne Rouge may be hosting a Twin Cities based brevet series in 2005.
A current focus for some of us is riding randonnees (long distance rides of 200, 300, 400, 600, 1000 and 1200 kilometers).

USS MINNEAPOLIS-SAINT PAUL will continue to be a leader among her peers and a formidable threat to those opposed to the people and ideals of the United States of America.
The SAINT PAUL was again taken over by the Navy in 1917 and was used as a transport ship during World War I. She was returned to her owner in 1919 and was scrapped in 1923.
The SAINT PAUL was later involved in the Korean Conflict.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (IATA: MSP, ICAO: KMSP) is the largest and busiest airport in the five-state upper Midwestern region of Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport has two terminals, both of which are named for famous Minnesotans; the Lindbergh Terminal (named for aviator Charles Lindbergh) and the much smaller Humphrey Terminal (named for former US Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey).
Minneapolis and other neighboring cities were concerned that such a move would have a negative economic impact, so an arrangement was made where the Metropolitan Airports Commission would outfit many homes in the vicinity of the airport with sound insulation and air conditioning so that indoor noise could be reduced.
