Conference teams are all affiliated with the NCAA Division III and the MIAC is recognized as one of the toughest NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic conferences in the country.
The MIAC is a conference in which the athletes are students first, yet still have the opportunity to reach any height to which their athletic abilities take them.
On March 15, 1920, a formal Constitution was adopted and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was born, with Carleton College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Hamline University, Macalester College, St. John's University, St. Olaf College and the University of St. Thomas as charter members.
