After the 1983 season, the Strikers were moved to Minnesota and became the Minnesota Strikers.
In their second season the Strikers did almost as well, finishing the season with a 12-8 record, but emerged in the playoffs, eventually going on to defeat the Boston Bolts to win the 1989 championship.

One of the young stars for the APSL Strikers was Tony Meola, who led his Strikers to a division title in 1991 nine years before winning the MLS Cup and earning league MVP honors in 2000 with the Kansas City Wizards.
In the same year that the APSL Strikers were playing their last season, there was an entry in the United States Interregional Soccer Leagues (now United Soccer Leagues) in 1994 called the Fort Lauderdale Kicks.

One of the top goal scorers in the history of the NASL, Alan signed with the Minnesota Kicks for the 1976 season in loan from Middlesbrough (English Football Club), but stayed on to complete nine seasons in the League.
In the NASL he played for Minnesota from 1976 to 1981, when he was traded to Montreal Manic.
