Yoshshige was a son of Hachisuka Iemasa and inherited his father's fief at Tokushima in Awa Province when Iemasa retired.
In 1590 he was given land worth 3,000 koku and was slated to act as Hideyoshi's governor of Japan after China's hoped-for submission (during the Korean Invasion of 1592-93).
Yoritaka was at first a retainer of the Toki of Mino Province.
