Minobu (身延町; -chou) is a town located in Minamikoma District, Yamanashi, Japan.
As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 7,672 and a density of 58.51 persons per km².
As of July 31, 2004 the estimated total population of the three towns that merged is 17,277.

 Mt. Minobu, the Buddha's Pure Land
On a visit to Shimobe Hot Spring in Yamanashi Prefecture, I picked up a tourist brochure which prominently featured Kuonji, the Head Temple of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism.
Minobu became my favorite attraction, and whenever a friend or family member visited me I invariably took them to Kuonji.
Due to the inspiration of Mt. Minobu, I have chanted Namu-Myoho-Renge-Kyo while walking across mountains and bathing in hot springs from Kyushu to Tokyo.

 Nikkô (1246-1333)
While Nichiren stayed at Minobu from 1274 to 1282, Nikkô propagated the Daimoku among the samurais and countrymen mainly in the provinces of Suruga and Kai.
Nikkô began to stay at Minobu constantly since 1285 where the tomb of Nichiren was taken care of by Nikkô and his followers.

Minobu is located in what was then known as HakiinoGo, in the old province of Kai (now Yamanashi Prefecture).
The magistrate of this area, Nambu Sanenaga, was a follower and patron of Nichiren Shonin and invited him to stay there after he left Kamakura.
Minobu on May 17, 1274 and, one month later, he settled in a hermitage built with Nambu's help.

An installation ceremony was held on May 15, 1999 for Rev. Nichiko Fujii, 90, who succeeded as the 91st Archbishop of the Minobusan Kuonji Temple of Yamanashi Prefecture, which is the mother temple of the Nichiren Shu Order.
Over 5,000 people gathered on the afternoon of the installation ceremony together with people in the town of Minobu at the main hall of the temple to take part in the ceremony.
In the early morning of May 15, he left there and stopped by the Enjitsuji Temple and Kyonimbo Temple which are related to the Lord Sanenaga Hakii who donated the land of Minobusan to Nichiren Shonin.

I can actually say I am very impressed by Japan, there is easily alot of history to see here mixed in with the modern places of Japan.
Many temples abound here, including Takeda Temple which is just up Takeda doori(Avenue) from Yamanashi Daigaku.
There is even a little shrine a couple of blocks from where the student center is. As of yet, I have not visited Takeda Temple(wait, I don't know if it is a shrine or temple...

Nichiren left Kamakura and settled at Minobu in Kai Province, in Yamanashi Prefecture, where he remained for eight years.
During the years of practice and teaching on Mount Minobu he grew seriously ill. His followers suggested he visit the hot springs at Hitachi Province in Ibaraki Prefecture to regain his health.
Nichiren descended Minobu and traveled 11 days until he reached the estate of Lord Ikegami, where Ikegami Honmonji Temple now is, but he was unable to complete his trip to the hot springs spa in Hitachi.

In 1938, when he was 15 years old Mas Oyama went to Japan to receive instruction and training as a pilot as Bismarck, his idol at the time.
