Minor Arcana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Minor Arcana of the Tarot deck consist of 56 cards, which are closely related to the deck of 52 playing cards used in most modern card games.
Modern decks often have the numbered minor arcana cards (Ace to 10 of each suit) named and numbered, although many resemble early decks in that there are no titles or numbers on those cards.
The numbered minor arcana cards usually have the appropriate number of symbols for the suit depicted, and the court cards usually have the corresponding person depicted holding the symbol of their suit.

Intuitive Tarot - The Minor Arcana
The Minor Arcana is the term used to describe the last 56 cards of the tarot that follow the major arcana.
The minor arcana mirrors the setup of a traditional set of playing cards in that there are four suits and 14 cards to each suit.
The four major suits of the minor arcana are: swords, wands, cups and coins or pentacles.

The common denominator of the Minor Arcana from all decks is that they belong in suits--the traditional four suits of the bridge deck (hearts, clubs, spades, diamonds) or their earlier, more elemental forms (Cups, Wands, Swords and Coins).
The Minor Arcana can be subdivided further to differentiate the royalty from the numbers, but they all participate equally in the four-way breakdown by element-- water, fire, air and earth.
When the Minor Arcana are drawn into this scheme, we again have to face the issue of fitting a 10-based form of counting onto the 360-degree sphere mapped by the ancients to track the ticking of the cosmic clock.

Major Arcana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The name Major Arcana is used only in esoteric practice; Tarot decks for playing call them Trumps and usually only show a Roman numeral on each card, plus some decoration that is identical on all of them.
The images on the Major Arcana in esoteric decks are often very heavy with symbolism; in more occult decks, there is far more to the illustration than a mere depiction of the card title.
The Major Arcana are usually regarded as relating to matters of higher purpose or deep significance, as opposed to the Minor Arcana which relate to the everyday world and matters of immediate significance.

To choose a Minor Arcanum, use a set of eight tiles or cards marked 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, Z. (A and Z can be Alpha and Omega; any eight distinct symbols will do.) Draw three of these tiles at the same time.

The minor arcana is further subdivided into four groups of cards: wands, pentacles, swords and cups.
The minor arcana have ten number cards and four "people" cards: page, knight, queen and king (although different tarot decks may use slightly different names, but essentially the same four individuals).
Each of the major arcana cards represents an individual theme, and the twenty-two cards taken as a unit comprise what is believed to me a metaphysical system of knowledge leading a person from the starting point of the "fool" to the end point of universal wisdom.

In fact, the modern deck is evolved from the Minor Arcana, and if you feel comfortable reading the jack as both the page and knight and doing without pictorial cards, you can read a playing deck.
Like the Major Arcana, each suit tells a story as you progress from the Ace to the King, but each suit tells a slightly different story, depending upon which facet of life the suit reflects.

Super Hero Tarot - DC Comics - Minor Arcana
In addition to the 22 cards of the Major Arcana, the images most people associate with the Tarot, there ia also the Minor Arcana, 56 cards divided into four "suits" - Coins, Cups, Swords, and Wands (or Batons) - of 14 cards each.
(The Minor Arcana is thought to be the forerunner of the modern deck of playing cards.) Along with their individual images, the suits are also linked to the four Classical Elements - Air, Earth, Fire, and Water - and often to four stages of life - Baby/Child/Man/Elder - or four Medival occupations - Craftsman/Bard/Soldier/Banker.
For the DC Tarot, we keep the standard Elemental correlations, and add a relationship to four of the important "eras" of DC Comics, The Golden Age, Jack Kirby's Fourth World characters, The Modern Age, and the Vertigo imprint.

Readings with only MAJOR or MINOR arcana? - Aeclectic Tarot Forum
As far as I understood, in one of her books (I can't remember which!) she proposed that one use Minors to gain an overview of the Querent's situation, and the Majors to gain a deeper insight into their psychology and inner-workings.
And to finish it off, she proposed that one combined both Major and Minor arcana for a five-card Horseshoe reading in order to seek guidance for the querent.
So I guess, according to Burke, Minor Arcana are particularly suited to situational questions, whilst Major Arcana might be particularly suited to psychological and inner-working related questions.
