Key signature - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In musical notation, a key signature is a series of sharp symbols or flat symbols placed on the staff, designating notes that are to be consistently played one semitone higher or lower than the equivalent natural notes (for example, the white notes on a piano keyboard) unless otherwise altered with an accidental.
Key signatures are generally written immediately after the clef at the beginning of a line of musical notation, although they can appear in other parts of a score, notably after a double bar.
Note that an absence of a key signature does not always mean that the music is in the key of C major or A minor: each accidental may be notated explicitly as required, or the piece may be modal, or the piece may be atonal.

Music Theory - Music Key Signatures
A key signature is a standardized collection of all the sharps or flats used in a scale, written immediately after the clef at the beginning of a line of musical notation, although they can appear in other parts of a score, usually after a double bar.
For key signatures with sharps, the first sharp is placed on F line (for the key of G major/E minor).
An absence of a key signature does not always mean that the music is in the key of C major or A minor: each accidental may be notated explicitly, or the piece may be atonal.

Minor scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Minor modes use the same set of key signatures as major modes; whichever signature corresponds to the step pattern of the natural minor scale is considered the key signature for that minor mode.
The relative major is found by raising the minor tonic note by a tone and a semitone, which is three half-steps in equal temperament, and in any event an interval of a minor third.
The major diatonic scale is simply a transposition of the natural minor scale, and the harmonic major scale is an inverted form of the harmonic minor scale, so all of these workhorse scales of the diatonic system possess such a circle of thirds.

 Minor Keys and Scales
Minor scales sound different from major scales because they are based on a different pattern of intervals.
Melodies in minor keys often use this particular pattern of accidentals, so instrumentalists find it useful to practice melodic minor scales.
Major and minor scales are traditionally the basis for Western Music, but jazz theory also recognizes other scales, based on the medieval church modes, which are very useful for improvisation.

Mixshare - How to Find a Song's Key
The major pattern uses all white notes from any C note to the next C. Similarly, the minor pattern uses all white notes from any A note to the next A. The fact that C major and A minor share the same notes is because they are relative keys.
Minor keys are followed with an 'm', for example A minor is "Am".
These songs fall in between the standard keys, and are notated by their shift in cents from the closest key.

To find the key signature and notes of the scale for a minor key, use the second table to find the relative major key, then look up the key signature of the relative major key.
To find the notes of the scale for the minor key, look up the scale for the relative major key but start from the root of the minor scale (which will be the 6th of the major scale).
For example, to find the relative minor of D major, find D in the major key column - this gives you B minor in minor key column so B minor is the relative minor of D major.

The 3rd of the minor scale must be raised (to form a major 3rd) to produce the tritone, (see lesson 12 - the tritone), that unsettles the dominant 7th thereby providing the pull back to the tonic.
If you take the keys with the same letter name and add the number of sharps and flats in the two key signatures, the result is always 7 (except for C flat and C sharp major where the number of sharps and flats totals 14).
Because the key signatures for A flat major and f minor are identical, f minor is said to be the relative minor to A flat major and A flat major is said to be the relative major to f minor.

In G minor with a C bass, any one-finger barre can create a five-note minor chord analogous to the major one-finger barre chords in open G. But here's the kicker: it is also extremely easy to play major chords.

Music in minor keys has a different quality, because the notes in the minor scale are arranged differently and so have different relationships with each other.
Thus music in minor keys has a different sound and emotional feel, and develops differently harmonically.
Music that is in a minor key is sometimes described as sounding more solemn, sad, or mysterious.

Virtually all common progressions in the (natural) minor key just kick off with the lovely, mournful minor chord and work themselves around to the relative major, or to the major chord right below (the dominant to the relative major).
What I was trying to emphasize in my first post is that the (natural) minor key, as it is used in pop, doesn't exhibit strong tonality.

Izzy Alcantara has amassed 304 home runs in his minor league career, but has played exclusively in the Mexican League since 2003, amassing 46 of his home runs there.
It would take Julio Franco-like longevity for Young to approach that mark, but as it is for any of minor league slugger waiting for another chance, it’s about more than milestones.
