Holy Orders are the several different degrees of ordained ministries recognized by the Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Anglican churches.
The outward and visible sign of the sacrament is the imposition of hands by a bishop, sometimes accompanied by the transmission of an object or objects associated with the order, such as a chalice and paten for a priest.
The minor orders are not usually included in the term "holy orders," for they really refer to laymen set apart for special tasks rather than to clergy in the proper sense of the term.
