He and Oscar-winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski filmed Minority Report using Super 35mm film and a laboratory process known as bleach bypass, wherein the grain of the stock comes to the fore and the characters' faces are drained of virtually all color.

 MINORITY REPORT
Description: Set in 2054, Steven Spielberg's Minority Report is freely adapted from a story by Philip K. Dick, with its central premise of "Precrime" law enforcement, totally reliant on three isolated human "precogs" capable (due to drug-related mutation) of envisioning murders before they're committed.
Blade Runner, Total Recall, Screamers, Impostor.) A bit like Total Recall, Minority Report eschews some of the plot's more cerebral aspects in favour of action when one of the cops responsible for capturing these future criminals is fingered as a future murderer and goes on the run to prove his future innocence.
Ultimately Minority Report has everything that the latest Star Wars instalment (Attack of the Clones) lacked: competent acting, thrilling action sequences, realistic special effects and a clever screenplay.

Dan Heller's Movie Review of "Minority Report"
Minority Report is the latest film from Stephen Spielberg that stars Tom Cruise as a cop from the year 2054, who works in the pre-crime division of the Washington D.C police department.
As a plotline, Minority Report is intelligent, has a good consistent flow, isn't always predictable (at least not that long before it happens), has many twists and turns with legitimate dead-ends, and above all, tells a plausible story (even if the basic premise itself requires considerable suspension of disbelief).
The best parts of the movie are so good - from the high-tech special effects to the light-hearted humorous moments to the good, steady flow of the action and plotline - that the problems with the film are easily forgiven.

 Minority Report (2002)
The movie starts with an example of this kind of investigation, and then we learn that the Precrime unit is in trouble.
The movie didn’t ignore the philosophical issues related to the concept of arresting someone for something they haven’t done; it remained an action flick at heart, but it got into the related subjects to a reasonably satisfying degree.
Minority Report will never be one of Steven Spielberg’s greatest flicks, but it stands as one of the best he’s made in recent years.

Minority Report is a masterful work which is deserving of the millions it is sure to make at the box office.
Minority Report is the fourth movie in the past twenty years adapted from a short story by sci fi visionary Philip K. Dick.

minority report movie review by Jim Eadon
Minority Report is set about fifty years in the future when they have finally invented flying cars.
One of the more true-ringing aspects of this movie is the portrayal of Philip K Dick's (who's short story this is based on) insight into the hideous intrusions of an increasingly Big Brother government onto the freedoms of its subjects.
Minority Report is a pretty good movie, I definitely enjoyed watching it (except for the ads and the ending, endings are not Spielberg's forte, it seems).

The movie's idea is that in the future an organization exists that can predict a murder before it happens, thus allowing the police to arrest the murderer in advance.
(Minority Report could very easily be an average made-for-cable movie.) Surely, Scott Frank's considerable writing talents (and a year of his life) could have been better spent on a different project for Cruise and Spielberg than this.

MINORITY REPORT movie review, In Film Australia
I understand what a “minority report” means to the story – clearly it’s just a red herring, a device to provide the hero a hope of saving his name once the state vs. Tom Cruise pitch gets the plot rollicking along.
Minority Report slots in very neatly alongside those names, the difference being that his focus is on other things entirely – namely photographing Cruise as he pouts across the screen and composing slick shots of futuristic technology.
The ending of this movie reminded me of the ending to the studio version of Blade Runner, a laughably preposterous moment in which Harrison Ford scored the trophy woman and flies with her over a picturesque landscape of blue skies and green pastures.

 Minority Report review
Minority Report certainly doesn't have the allegorical dimension of Blade Runner, rather it approaches Robocop in terms of its denunciation of a legal system that's gone too far.
Minority Report stretches over in length the fault falls partly on the writers who believed that developing a subplot around the death of John's son would be a good thing.
Though Minority Report is not a masterpiece, the rigor with which the director and actors attack the project while avoiding the multiple traps for a production of this size makes for an ambitious and striking film.

 U·TURN.net: Minority Report (movie review)
Minority Report is a science fiction movie which explores justice, freewill, religion and morality from a profoundly postmodern point of view.
Indeed, the movie draws its name from the fact that one precog's vision may disagree with the other two (a "minority report").
Another problem the movie raises with the pre-crime system is that we are supposedly free agents who can act in a manner contrary to what is foretold.

Review on Minority Report - Movie by cinemaniac on MouthShut.com
Minority Report is the thrilling masterwork of an emperor of cinema (although at times overrated); a gift from a true defining of the magic our (now) notorious Hollywood scene rarely puts out.
Minority Report is an unconventional and earthy yet gloomy ambient meditation of how a system of impregnable and impeccable forces can succumb to its shortcomings as a device wrought by flawed humans.
The movie is a triumph because of its astounding human elements, not only do we feel intensely for the protagonist but also because this protagonist can actually think for himself, is flawed, and willingly searches his soul.

 Minority Report: Movie Review
NEW YORK, 26 June 2002—Steven Spielberg's summer blockbuster Minority Report is almost prescient in its timeliness, appearing at a moment when everyone in the U.S. wants to anticipate and avert, rather than respond to, acts of violence in the possible future.
Minority Report takes up this very question, exploring law enforcement in a "what if" Washington, D.C., in the year 2054.
In such a fine piece as Minority Report, a rock 'em sock 'em duck-and-dodge fight sequence is only useful as a concession to summer blockbuster formula.

In many respects, "Minority Report" is another 'neo-noir' in the vein of "Blade Runner".
Speaking of "Blade Runner", "Minority Report" is based on a short story by late science fiction author Philip K. Dick, whose other short stories have been adapted into "Blade Runner", "Total Recall", and "Impostor".
"Minority Report" is the type of summer blockbuster that Hollywood should be making more of, one that is brimming with equal portions of intelligence and spectacle.

Radio Free Movie Review: Minority Report (2002)
In Minority Report, a futuristic thriller set in 2054, murder has been eliminated in Washington DC thanks to a division of law enforcement known as Precrime.
But without the pre-determined fate aspect, Minority Report is really nothing more than your standard crime drama, complete with cliches ranging from the generic framing of an innocent man to the corruption in the ranks of the police.
And with the cold, metallic colors that dominate the movie, the scenery often conveys a mood that the actors, plot, and dialogue cannot--a mood that is perfectly fitting for a dystopian story with characters who dream of murder 24/7.

The script has changed dramatically from the Philip K. Dick story upon which it is based, yet Minority Report often feels like a written work of science fiction, meditating on challenging questions and developing concepts to their fullest without being seduced by visual effects.
Even the old chestnut of dehumanization in the name of collective safety -- a concept as old as fiction itself -- sees new life in Minority Report, from the slot-box prisons where "pre-criminals" are entombed to the enforced catatonia of the Pre-Cogs themselves.
