Founded in 1907 as the North Dakota State School of Forestry, it was affiliated with North Dakota State University from 1968 to 1996, when it obtained its current affiliation with Minot State University.
Additionally, MSU-B offers 2-year Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees in the aforementioned fields, with a large general education requirement for degree completion; these AA and AS degrees are transferable to bachelor's degree programs at a 4-year college or university.
