 Minstead Reviews
Peter Roberts' study of the manor of Minstead in the heart of the northern New Forest is a welcome addition to a growing literature on forest communities and their commoners.
Residents of the Forest, and in particular those of Minstead, may well be related to the families mentioned, and if not themselves then their neighbours will be related.
This scholarly book, dedicated to the past, present and future commoners of Minstead will be an invaluable source book of the period for Forest residents, local and family historians but also, outside the Forest, as a detailed study of a commoning community in the 1600's.

Most of the news pinned to the fence outside the shop is of a gentler kind: fetes, concerts and the annual beer festival, held at the neighbouring pub.
If the Minstead Village Shop does close, it will be a huge inconvenience to the lady who arrives every week on horseback and, without dismounting, bawls: ''Have you got Horse and Hound?'' It will be a great disappointment, too, to Nick Mellersh, who pops in several times a week to buy cheese, fruit and vegetables.
Minstead Village Shop, with five bedrooms and a third of an acre of gardens, is for sale through Lane Fox (01962 869999) for £825,000.
