Remaster (and its derivations, frequently found in the phrases digitally remastered or digital remastering) is a word and concept ushered into the mass consciousness via the digital age, although it had existed before then.
Minstrel in the gallery is extremely underrated in midst of more commercial aqualung and thick as a brick and while it is better for a beginner to check out those two (or stand up) this is the one that shines as best.

Rough Edge: Jethro Tull CD Reviews
After taking in all of "Minstrel In The Gallery" I was surprised to hear that Jethro Tull had quite the variety in their influences and stylistic palette.
I think I'll be saving "Minstrel In The Gallery" for the rare times when I'm in a classic rock mood when I'll combine it with a selection of CDs from Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Genesis, and Camel.
"Minstrel In The Gallery" was produced by Ian Anderson.

 Daily Vault - July 20, 2004
The title track does something which I find intriguing: "Minstrel In The Gallery" ties the group's new fascination with acoustic-based music together with the electric pseudo-hard-rock sound which they had become known for.
In all fairness, the band does try to stick to its rock roots as much as possible on the first half of Minstrel In The Gallery, though the results are a little mixed.
Yes, Minstrel In The Gallery is not always an easy listen -- mostly because you're hearing a band who was definitely in flux, not quite knowing which way to take their music next.

JETHRO TULL Minstrel In The Gallery review and MP3
"Minstrel In The Gallery" then marks the introduction for the band (no misconstruing that), "Cold Wind Valhalla" represents their ascent to stardom, "Black Satin Dancer" an example of the minstrel feeding the same dark appetites in the gilded setting of the courts (alley or palace, the vices are the same).
Of course, most people (I would think) listen to this in the order that TULL arranged them, and glean from Minstrel a loose concept album that casts Ian and company as minstrels in a modern-day gallery of wine, women, and "newspaper warriors".
"Minstrel In The Gallery" evokes the world of Shakespeare in its literate lyrics, Elizabethan imagery, and the mixture of rustic folk music and refined classical airs into their rock.

 JETHRO TULL
Minstrel in the Gallery tackles a theme many rockers – from Dylan to Davies – come to sooner or later: the relationship between performer and audience.
On Minstrel, Anderson gets down to shirtsleeves and wades amongst the masses – "the pumpkin-eaters, titillated men-of-action, one-line jokers, woman-haters, backgammon players." "He called the band down to the stage and he looked at all the friends he’d made." Elitism can’t tarnish Anderson: he’s part of the motley crew.
Minstrel in the Gallery seems simpler around the edges than most Tull endeavors.

Although critics sometimes found their songs overly ornate and the lyrics too arty, the fans didn`t mind, and Tull was one of the most successful live acts in the world.
MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY showcases Ian Anderson`s idiosyncratic vision of progressive rock, one in which he married hard-rock chords and thunderous rave-ups with gentle balladry and the earthy sounds of his flute and acoustic guitar.

After the Thick As A Brick and Passion Play albums of 1972 and 73, Jethro Tull fans had grown accustomed to side-long songs and concept albums, something they'd been prepared for earlier with Aqualung.

Minstrel in the Gallery is one of Tull’s many crowning achievements of the 1970’s.
Minstrel in the Gallery shows the band’s more reflective side and Ian Anderson’s acoustic guitar is as integral to the album as is Martin Barre’s electric riffs and John Evan’s piano playing.
The title track opens the CD in grand style and sees Anderson singing over his acoustic guitar before Barre rips into one of his classic electric solos.

The intro is Tull being presented as minstrels before the court, and that illusion of them being just that, is kept throughout the album.
To create that illusion, the progressive keyboards are gone and Tull have returned to their roots, or at least a closer step towards them.
The progressive style is still there, as in Minstrel In The Gallery and Baker St. Muse, but it has been toned down a lot.
