Minus The Bear’s days of writing "songs about drinking and girls" are done and gone—instead replaced by tales of money as metaphor, stripped innocence and lovelorn remembrance.
In the simplest terms, song titles are not the focus of Minus The Bear; it’s the music, it’s always been so….With their new album, Menos El Oso, The Bear reinforce that focus and expand on it, ushering richer narratives, refined production, and emotional breadth into their sound.

Guitar Player - Minus the Bear
Sure, Minus the Bear is a two-guitar band from Seattle that favors drop-D tunings, but don’t think for a second that they’re something resembling a grunge relic.
The reason could be Minus the Bear’s singular indie/prog sound—a mixture of the Police’s syncopated pop, electronic elements á la Tortoise, textural fly-bys, and tricky two-hand tapping provided by Snider’s co-guitarist, Dave Knudson.
But Minus the Bear’s latest release, Menos el Oso [Suicide Squeeze], actually features less of Knudson’s trademark tapping than previous albums, due to the two guitarists’ latest fetish—live sampling.
