Spivak died at age of 74 from complications related to heart surgery.
While Spivak was able to improve on the Tories' electoral results in the 1973 election, he was not able to unseat popular NDP premier Ed Schreyer.
Spivak is survived by his wife of 47 years, Senator Mira Spivak, and their three children.

Spivak is the widow of Manitoba politician Sidney Spivak.

FAPEL has been trying desperately for two years now (and to no avail) to contact Senator Spivak to express their views.

Spivak's bill, which had its second reading earlier this month, the federal government would have to grant a municipality a personal watercraft restriction or ban if there was enough local support, unless it would impede navigation on the waterway.
Spivak said she hopes to spend time at her family's cottage on Manitoba's West Hawk Lake -- a place she considers a peaceful oasis.
