Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar (August 16, 1798 – December 19, 1859) was the second president of the Republic of Texas.
Lamar was born near Louisville in Jefferson County, Georgia.
Houston and Lamar had different views on virtually every topic relating to the development of the new Republic, from finances to dealing with Texas Native Americans (of whom he favored eradication) to the Annexation of Texas into the United States (which he opposed).

Lamar later came to favor annexation, served in the Mexican War, and was U.S. minister to Nicaragua and Costa Rica (1858-59).

The Lucius Mirabeau Lamar you refer to was my grandfather, born in 1866.
His elder brother, Lavoisier Lamar, was a civil engineer who built many of the railroad bridges in northern Mexico (and in a number of other countries).

However, there were occasional evidences of drug use and fighting on campus that she saw.
Lamar is fine for students who are not easily overwhelmed by its size and diversity, not so good for shy kids.
