I put the young plants in a couple of buckets with just a little water (planning to plant them elsewhere later-but ran out of time!) and they are still green and fresh-looking after 4 days--so, this is a very easy plant to grow.
I grow from seed plants with yellow flowers and plants with red/fuchsia flowers and although both varieties are fragant the yellow one is distinctly more fragrant.
I suggest (In hot places) growing the plants where the sun will either not touch them first thing in the morning or in the later evening so that the flowers can be enjoyed longer before they are smitten by old Apollo’s spear.

I have one plant in full sun that is 7 feet tall, YES I said 7 feet tall about 4 ft wide its a marvel of hundreds of salmon colored blooms.
The soil in the area of the plant is coral sand, so I plan on spreading the plant around the yard where the soil is poor.
Some of the plants are 6 feet tall but most are around 4 feet tall.They use to be bushy and full of flowers now they are geting alot of stalks and very weedy looking.

I have the same plant also, from probably the same stall in bangkok, which looks identical to yours and also was identified as Mirabilis (thanks Marcello).
Mine is in a fish tank in a North facing window and is unheated, it is permanantly stood in water (5mm) and is in peaty/fibrous compost.
Regarding the frilly leaf margins, yes they certainly scream mirabilis, but also in hybrids that trait is fairly dominant.
