AEGiS-15IAC: Genetic analysis of HIV-1 sequences from a small Brazilian county: usefulness of envelope and polymerase ... To better understand local epidemiologic patterns of HIV-1 spread in one such setting, we performed an analysis of HIV-1 sequences from the Southeastern county of Miracema, where previous studies had found an absolute predominance of heterosexual transmission (with a slightly inverted male to female ratio) among patients who where born and lived in the county. METHODS: we sequenced and aligned a 370bp fragment of the C2V3/env and a 837bp fragment of pol, encompassing both PR and RT, from a sample of 39 adult patients (out of a cohort of 60) followed in Miracema.
