Miracleman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Miracleman, known as Marvelman in his native United Kingdom, is a comic book superhero.
The Miracleman project consisted of giving someone a second body, which was stored in an extradimensional pocket of space when not in use; when a telepathic signal was given the two bodies switched place in space and the mind was transferred as well.
Miracleman and his companions now rule the planet as they see fit, though they are ineffectively opposed by groups such as an alliance of Christian and Islamic fundamentalists.

Miracleman, Book One: A Dream of Flying - PopMatters Comic Book Review
Imagine the feelings of one fanboy, finally clutching his long-awaited collector's copy of Miracleman, afraid to start reading it for fear of being let down, yet unable to hold back his smoldering anticipation: there I was, dear readers, about to tread another milestone in a long career of comics-reading, and scared of the outcome.
Miracleman is the story of one Mike Moran, an average freelance journalist who is haunted by strange dreams and a word he knows he should remember but can't.
Since Miracleman was initially published in Britain's Warrior magazine in the early 1980's, it stuck to the British standard of eight-page chapters, which meant a lot of story had to be concentrated into few pages.

Kid Marvelman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Following the atomic bombing of Kid Miracleman, Young Miracleman and Miracleman by their creator, Dr.
Gargunza, Kid Miracleman survived and, believing Miracleman dead and now in the real world (versus Gargunza's Virtual Reality in which the Miracleman Family had lived the last few years of his life), decided to remain in his invulnerable superhuman form, leaving Johnny Bates never to grow up.
Following Miracleman's establishment of a global utopia, the dark allure of Bates would as anti-hero would make hiim the object of admiration and veneration for the rebellious.

Miracleman talks to us from some new refuge we’re unfamiliar with in the beginning, writing his story down in a book with steel pages.
Miracleman and Miraclewoman then make themselves known to the people of earth and from there set about making the earth into a Utopia.
The thing about Miracleman is, it’s not so much happens, but how it happens, and Alan Moore knows better than anyone how to write something that shouldn’t be possible, a comic book, about superheroes, for adults, that doesn’t seem even for an instant goofy.

The History and Saga of Miracleman
The quickest and easiest answer is that Miracleman was a relatively derivative British Superhero whose colorful exploits graced the pages of UK weekly (and later monthly) fl and white comic strip programs between the years of 1954 and 1963.
Miracleman was originally known as "Marvelman", and can be considered the illegitimate grandson of Superman himself.
To be sure Marvelman/ Miracleman is a character born of litigation and has become the most litigious character in the history of Comic Books.

I mistakenly used Miracleman as a point of reference, stating something to the effect that if it was up in the air, anyone could use the character.
In fact, Gaiman was not even born before the creation of Miracleman, and Alan Moore would have to have been a one year old genius to have invented the character.
The Miracleman case looks like it's basically been resolved, as judges seem to have sided in Gaiman's favor, while simultaneously finding out that McFarlane never actually had any rights to Miracleman.

Todd could print his own version, and Gaiman may be able to continue the adventures of Miracleman so long as they stay close to the source material and aren't copying Todd's stories (and what are the odds of that).
Regardless of whether you think Miracleman would be useless without the rights to reprint the older stories (and I strongly disagree with that thinking) Todd purchased a huge share of a property he felt he could exploit.

The gist of the plot is this: Dr. Gargunza (Miracleman’s arch enemy from the 50s and 60s) has kidnapped Mike Moran’s wife Liz and Miracleman must save her.
It’s about five months since the end of Book One and Miracleman and Mike Moran are slowly growing apart (“I don’t trust Moran in a crisis” Miracleman says at one point) as the hero is slowly becoming more godlike in his powers and behavior.
Suffice it to say, Mike Moran and Miracleman ARE two different beings even though, genetically, they share the same DNA and memories.

MIRACLEMAN was the real beginning of the Revisionist Superhero movement in comics.
I was fortunate to have penciled two issues of MIRACLEMAN from Moore's scripts, (# 9 and 10) for Eclipse Comics in the early 1980's.
Issue #9 featured the birth of MIRACLEMAN's daughter, WINTER, a story which was considered notorious at the time because of it's graphically honest depiction of labor and childbirth.

One of the problems with Miracleman is the basic fact that apparently Dez Skinn was under the mistaken impression that the original copyright had fallen into public domain.
Things like the Miracleman statue are clearly based on this new material, and if the old was in the public domain then the new material is separately protectable.
Actually, the name Miracleman was first applied to the character in a roman a clef appearance in one of the Moore/Davis Captain Britain stories.

But Marvel knows that Gaimen will use the funding to try and get the rights of Miracleman back from Todd MacFarlane, a man who is probably considered a thorn to Marvel's side, especially in the early 90's when he, and a lot of other Marvel talents, left the company to create Image.
And speaking of Miracleman, I don't know if anybody ever read the book, but I leafed through my early back issues the otehr day, and what Alan Moore developped from one of the goofiest golden age creations is simply fascinating.
But Gaimen's Miracleman story is yet to be finished, and I believe that's why he's trying to get the rights from MacFarlane, who alledgedly told Gaimen that he would publish the book for him to write, but has held off for a few years for reasons of his own.

While no background is given on the character Miracleman of Earth-238, who appears for a panel being blown to bits, I think it's a pretty fair assumption that Moore obviously meant him to be, at least, a homage to the classic character.

Given that the character and his world were an imitation of the Marvel Family's, I can't really begrudge Moore for ripping that world to shreds.
Miracleman as well as Kid Miracleman are cases of power corrupting...KM does it through violence, MM does it through forcing his "good intentions" on a society, whether they want it or not.
Of course if anyone were attempting to do this story today, it would be absolutely mandatory to deny in anyway possible the "non-realistic" storytelling of the fifties, so all those wonderful stories that provide source material would go the way of the garbage bin.

Whereas "Watchmen" is notable for exploring the lives of the "mystery men" of yore, "Miracleman" is concerned with beings possessing godlike powers---this is "Watchmen" with Dr. Manhattan as the prime mover.
It's true that much of it now seems faintly familiar because so many other writers and artists have ripped off its conventions and style, but as has been said many times on this board, this is the first---and first counts.
