The Dassault Mirage III is a supersonic fighter aircraft designed in (A republic in western Europe; the largest country wholly in Europe) France during the (The decade from 1950 to 1959) 1950s, and manufactured both in France and a number of other countries.
A similar inconsistent variation in Mirage fighter versions was the presence or absence of an (3 to 30 megahertz) HF antenna that was fitted as a forward extension to the vertical tailplane.
The Mirage IIIV was built in response to a mid- (The decade from 1960 to 1969) 1960s (An international organization created in 1949 by the North Atlantic Treaty for purposes of collective security) NATO specification for a VTOL strike fighter.

 The Dassault Mirage III/5/50 Series
The Mirage IIIC was armed with twin 30 millimeter DEFA revolver-type cannon, fitted in the belly with the gun ports under the air intakes.
A similar inconsistent variation in Mirage fighter versions was the presence or absence of an HF antenna that was fitted as a forward extension to the tailfin.
On some Mirages, the leading edge of the tailfin was a straight line, while on those with the HF antenna the leading edge had a sloping extension forward.

 The Dassault Mirage IV
As a interim measure, they simply built a scaled-up version of the Mirage III fighter, known as the "Mirage IV", with the expectation that it would be soon replaced by a more capable aircraft.
The company envisioned a scaled-up version of the Mirage III fighter, originally focusing on a "Mirage IVC" with twin Pratt and Whitney J75 turbojets, but finally settled on a smaller design, the "Mirage IVA", which was powered by twin Atar turbojets as used on the single-engine Mirage III.
With RATO boosters and the heavy-duty landing gear, the Mirage IVA was in principle capable of operating from rough airstrips.

Mirage III by Jose R. Rodriguez (Fujimi/Academy 1/48)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The IAF used the Mirage as an air superiority fighter and as a ground attacker even though the “experts” had dismissed the little Mirage with its lack of range and sophisticated electronics as a wanna-be fighter that could not perform the tasks of a “real” fighter, i.e.
Because we Mirage fans seen to be a silent minority without deep pockets, we will continue to see new kits of aircraft already available or new kits of aircraft with rather short and lackluster careers but which have a higher “cool” appeal.
Perhaps the Mirage III family was the last of the true fighter plane breed were the pilot mattered and electronic gadgetry was of no use.

The Mirage IIIE differed from the IIIC interceptor most obviously in having a 30 centimeter (11.8 inch) forward fuselage extension to increase the size of the avionics bay behind the cockpit.
The Mirage IIIB trainer, mentioned earlier, had tandem seating, with a fuselage stretch of over a meter relative to the Mirage IIIA and the cannon deleted to accommodate the second seat.

 The Dassault Mirage IV
Despite the fact that the Mirage IV had no bomb-bay, was crammed full of fuel tanks, and was also generally fitted with twin 2,500-liter (660 US gallon) drop tanks, its range for its assigned mission, penetrating Soviet airspace, was still marginal.
The weapon for which the Mirage IV was designed, the 60 kilotonne "AN-22" nuclear weapon, fit into a recess in the fuselage.
The Mirage IV obtained a new lease on life in the bomber role when 18 were rebuilt as "Mirage IVPs", where "P" for "Penetration", to carry the ASMP ramjet-powered stand-off missile, instead of the AN-22 bomb.
