Ms Devine noted that the villagers, observing the conference on television, "began hissing the reporters, angry for some reason that uncomfortable questions were being asked, angry at the bad manners of pushy reporters who seemed to be haranguing of officials".

Miranda Devine today weighs in against those dastardly secularists and their campaign against Christmas lest someone is offended.
Alas the Devine Miss M does not elaborate what this “degrading hooking-up sex” actually is. I say it is the same sex young adults at uni have been enjoying for a long time (Like 15 years ago when I was drinking beer while pretending to study for a B Ec).
The Devine Miss M then moves onto the attacking the idea that sex was guilt ridden until the liberation of the masses by Kinsey.

Regarding Miranda, I note that like so many global warming skeptics she also elides the skepticism that does exist toward human contributions to global warming with skepticism towards the measured phenomenon of global warming itself.

Devine appeared out of nowhere, though better informed readers could have made the link to her father, the Catholic conservative journalist Frank Devine, who has variously edited The Australian, the New York Post, and the Chicago Sun-Times.
Miranda Devine was a general reporter working her police contacts for The Daily Telegraph in the early ’90s when she was promoted to the paper’s opinion page by Col Allan, the then-editor.
Miranda was born in New York though when exactly she won’t say (she’s in her early 40s).

Miranda's taste of literature seems to be a lot more limited, I don't know what expertise she would be able to provide.
Miranda Devine's journalist persona (which I don't deny may well be obnoxious, I don't actually read anything she writes) probably falls into the category of deliberately provocative.
Miranda would be torn to shreds - both by people who disagree with her and by those who agree with her but see her as making them look bad.

Devine's blind prejudice was displayed in her incredibly silly and completely off-the-mark tirade in yesterday's SMH against Virginia Trioli's appointment as Sally Loane's replacement at ABC 702 in Sydney.

Miranda and the rest of the right-wing commentariat grouped around Quadrant magazine have got a lot of mileage out of the “former detective sergeant” and “former SAS soldier”but, as it turns out, he is neither.

Back in March this year, Miranda Devine wrote a column in which she quoted from a friend of hers who is a soldier in Iraq.
Devine’s implication, to the extent that you can garner intent in this messy piece, is to use this information as some sort of vindication for the invasion, as some sort of cover for what she now calls ‘the mistakes and tragedy’ of Iraq.
Consider: Miranda Devine not only wants to ignore the fact that this has not gone anything like the various claims that have been made since March 2003 said it would, or that what she says now contradicts what she said in March.

Whilst this is a catchy introduction for an article, Ms Devine’s comments are a thoughtless and offensive insult to all lawyers, not least those who work hard to achieve justice for victims of medical negligence.
The fact is people who have suffered injury as a result of medical negligence are entitled to, and seek, compensation to restore their life, so far as money can, to the position they were in before.

Miranda Devine's establishment cheerleading is fairly harmless when she's patrolling her local turf - bushfires, 4 wheel drives, women's apparel - but it simply isn't good enough when the subject is war ('Bush's tough stance is the steel in UN jelly', Sun-Herald, 29 September).
Ms Devine's crack about 'men so politically seasoned' exhibiting 'a faith in the infallibility of the UN' was meant I suppose to infer a sort of oldster naivety but to jeer at this sentiment while herself exhibiting faith in the infallibility of the US speaks volumes for her own callowness and lack of perspective.
Like her lapdog counterparts in the US media, Ms Devine can't resist a dig at his predecessor while praising Mr Bush's 'tremendous self-discipline: a non-drinker and runner with the physique of an elite athlete', as if these were qualifications for office.

The Sydney Morning Herald - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sydney Morning Herald is recorded as being read by a stronger representation of the so-called, "AB demographic"", (which is thought to measure education, income and occupation) than its main competitor, the only other major daily newspaper in Sydney, the Murdoch-owned The Daily Telegraph.
Although more journalistly responsible than The Daily Telegraph, several of the paper's leading journalists, particularly Miranda Devine and Gerard Henderson are well known for their so-called "conservative" (right-wing) views and in previous times the Herald was noted for its conservatism.
Its circulation is smaller than the Telegraph; according to circulation data published in the first half of 2004, the Herald sells about 221,000 copies per day compared to around 409,000 copies of the Telegraph.

Devine’s reference to the detention of the “Dunera Boys” provides a chilling insight into the meaning of her historical comparison of the open-ended “war on terror” with the Second World War.
Devine’s use of the term “national security” has nothing to do with any conception relating to the protection and safety of ordinary Australian citizens.
