An alumnus of the Polytechnic Institute and, respectively, the Law School at the University of Bucharest, Mircea Geoana graduated in 1992 the "Ecole Nationale d'Administration" in Paris, France.
Mircea Geoana is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

Mircea Dan Geoană (born July 14, 1958 in Bucharest) is a Romanian politician.
Considered a young reformer, Geoana was elected president of the party on 25 April 2005 by delegates at a PSD Party Congress held in Bucharest.
Geoana's win was attributed by the media to last minute backroom dealing by party leaders opposed to Iliescu as well as to public gaffes made by Iliescu at the Party Congress, including using old communist terms when referring to his party colleagues.

Geoana said measures adopted to fight corruption must be integrated into a broader category of what he called "the values dimension" required of NATO candidate countries before they can join the alliance -- that is, issues related to transparency, bureaucracy, independence of the judiciary, treatment of the Roma, and the situation of institutionalized children.
Geoana said that for the first time, NATO members have come up with a set of specific criteria that candidate countries should fulfill regarding this values dimension.
Geoana also said that Romania is hoping to resolve its border disputes with neighboring Ukraine by the time Romanian President Ion Iliescu visits that country in June.

 Meeting with Mircea Geoana
In his response, Foreign Minister Geoana conveyed the Prime Minister's apology at not being able to meet with Hungarian-American community leaders during his recent visit to the United States.
Geoana was not able to give specific answers owing to "insufficient information," but assured that a response would be forthcoming following consultations with the leadership of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Rumania.

 Romania, a new emerging economy
Foreign Minister Geoana emphasised that the relations between Romania and China are developing based on common and time-honoured interests, which the two states represent in their geographic zones.
Geoana said that Romania was particularly interested in relaunching the economic relations with China, given the development pace of the two countries and the fact that the bilateral commercial exchanges last year stood at US$350m.
